Happy St. Nick's Day!

The Eve of Saint Nicholas' Feast Day.  Celebrating St. Nick's Day is a tradition that has been carried over from when I was a child. It is a much looked forward to event in our house! The tradition actually dates back to the time of St. Nicholas and the legend of him helping the daughters of a poor man, by anonymously providing their dowries. The bags of gold, were tossed through an open window, are said to have landed in stockings or shoes left before the fire to dry. This led to the custom of children hanging stockings or putting out shoes, eagerly awaiting gifts from Saint Nicholas

Only 9 pairs?

All of our kiddos have carefully prepared and left their Christmas wish lists in their shoes, err, I mean boots. Boots are the popular choice cause they hold more. A couple years ago I had the kids start making their lists a little differently. They are to list something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.  This year I adapted that to Want, need, wear and something to do (as in an activity/outing).   It's always so much fun to see what they come up with.

Found the missing one, never too old!

Among simple little treats left in their boots, a candy cane is always included. The Candy Cane represents Bishop Nicholas' Crozier.
Happy St. Nick's Day!
